Key Intervention Areas

Friends of Nature has been providing commentable services in:

  • Environment Education
  • Biodiversity Conservation
  • Climate Change
  • Sustainable Development
  • Health & Wellness

Environmental education:

Environmental education is a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving, and take action to improve the environment. As a result, individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions. For the present and future existence of human life on earth it is a mandatory and need that the different fauna and flora and its habitat also should be preserved and well maintained so that everything should go hand in hand. FoN is doing its utmost understanding and awareness program by including the participation of various disciplines across different fields for environmental education.

Biodiversity Conservation:

‘Biodiversity’ or ‘Biological Diversity’, refers to the variety of plants, animals and microorganisms that exist, the genes they contain and the ecosystems they live in. One of the reasons why biodiversity is important is because it helps to keep the environment in a natural balance. For the existence of human kind the interaction between nature and people is an inevitable factor. The impact to biodiversity would ultimately hamper the human life on earth. So it is the duty and responsibility of each and every human to safe guard the tiny to the giant living creature and their habitat on earth. The Friends of Nature plays an important role in these areas of biodiversity conservation and it has initiated many awareness and training programs for the same. FoN has also facilitated and networked with many other organization in the field of biodiversity conservation.

Climate change:

Since the Industrial Revolution began around 1750, human activities have contributed substantially to climate change by adding CO2 and other heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere. These greenhouse gas emissions have increased the greenhouse effect and caused Earth’s surface temperature to rise. The primary human activity affecting the amount and rate of climate change is greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. At present we are aware that our daily life styles and nation’s development should be environmental friendly can only save our mother earth. We should concentrate on Environmental friendly developments and training programs along with developing traditional knowledge. FoN has given utmost priority for these activities.

Sustainable Development:

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The human development without considering other living and non-living things on earth will ultimately peril its future existence. The longer we pursue unsustainable development, the more frequent and severe its consequences are likely to become, which is why we need to take action now.

Living within our environmental limits is one of the central principles of sustainable development. One implication of not doing so is climate change. This means meeting the diverse needs of all people in existing and future communities, promoting personal wellbeing, social cohesion and inclusion, and creating equal opportunity. Sustainable development is about finding better ways of doing things, both for the future and the present. We might need to change the way we work and live now, but this doesn't mean our quality of life will be reduced.

In this context FoN has put forth many development models and are trying to improve the awareness programs in par with sustainable development which are environmental friendly.

Health and wellness:

The best wealth for a person is his or her health. Healthier world can only create healthier generations. We understand that clean water, clean air and healthy food are the basic rights of all humans. We have a great tradition of farming and cultivation. But recently many of the agricultural lands and wet lands are being filled for various infrastructure developments. FoN has put forth many awareness program and actions against this improper land use practices. Eco farming, home gardens and agro-forestry should be practiced for the successful existence of human and other creatures on earth. So FoN understands that it is the responsibility of the society to practice our traditional farming and social well being for achieving a healthier generation and FoN has taken many appropriate actions for the same. Proper waste disposal is yet another challenge facing these days. FoN has also extended its hands in this area by giving field training and awareness programs for reducing plastics, supporting the use of bio-degradable materials and proper waste disposal etc.
